Hepatology, Hepatobiliary Surgery, and Liver Transplantation

Since 1995, the Hepatology, Hepatobiliary Surgery and Liver Transplantation Unit provides comprehensive care for the full spectrum of hepatobiliary and pancreatic diseases requiring medical or surgical treatment. Its team of hepatologists and surgeons, trained in the United States and Europe, is one of Latin America's most experienced. Hundreds of cadaveric and living donor transplants have been performed both in children and adults. In addition, the Unit has a large experience in complex hepatobiliary surgeries including major liver resections, portosystemic shunts and biliary reconstructions, among others. Its living donor transplantation program is the most important in South America. The team achieved one- and five-year post-transplant actuarial survival rates of 90% and 80% respectively, figures that are comparable to the outcomes of the most renowned transplant programs in the world.
