Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics
The PRICAI (First Argentine Center of Immunogenetics) of the Favaloro Foundation, a pioneer in Argentina in this field of medicine, is the first laboratory in Latin America accredited by the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI) , in the following areas: HSC/BM Transplantation, related donor genetic identification; and HSC/BM Transplantation, unrelated donor histocompatibility testing for other clinical purposes. The accreditation ensures the standards that establish minimal criteria that all histocompatibility laboratories must meet if their services are to be considered acceptable.
The laboratory performs class I and II antigen typification by high-resolution molecular biology (more than 15,000 patients studied), flow cytometry and lymphocytotoxicity crossmatch, lymphocyte populations, post bone marrow transplant monitoring with PCR. DNA analyses for paternity tests and forensic medicine (gender and autosomic markers, mitochondrial DNA tests) have been performed on more than 8,000 samples.
